Periodic Exam and Cleaning
It is recommended that every person see their dentist at least twice a year. At a patients first appointment they should expect to be greeted by dental assistant who will take them to the patient area of the clinic. Once we have reviewed the records it will be determined if the patient will need x-rays taken at this visit.
At All About Kids Dental, necessary digital x-rays will be taken so the dentist can assess the dental health of both children and adults. Digital x-rays allow our dental office to take pictures of your child’s teeth and have the images appear immediately on our monitor. Digital radiography is a form of X-ray imaging, where digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film. Advantages include time efficiency through bypassing chemical processing and the ability to digitally transfer and enhance images. Digital x-rays emit 90% less radiation than traditional x-rays.
The dentist will examine the patient’s teeth and with help from the dental assistant he can have a detailed written treatment plan entered into the computer. This will include treatment that is immediately necessary and treatment that may be needed in the future.
The American Dental Association explains periodic exam as a type of examination that is performed on established patients to discover any changes in health and dental status since a former comprehensive or periodic assessment.
At a patient’s initial appointment they will normally have their teeth cleaned and fluoride applied. It is usually recommended that the patient return in 6 months to have another cleaning. But also to make sure there have not been any changes to their dental health. At that time they may also want to finish any treatment that was not completed or is now deemed necessary.
At the end of this appointment the staff member will walk the patient out and schedule any necessary treatment appointment and their 6 month recall appointment.
